The Hua Mountain (Huashan) area of Gukeng is Taiwans best-known coffee-growing region, where Arabica coffee from Africa has been successfully planted with help from government agencies. The coffee of Gukeng has a slightly sour, bitter taste that quickly sweetens in the mouth, giving this Taiwan coffee its unique flavor. Coffee shops have sprung up to bring a new industry to the area, and lovers are especially fond of the night scene here.The "Paper-making street" here is the only place in Taiwan that preserves the purely natural traditional method of making paper by hand.

This bridge, across the lower reaches of the Zhuoshui River in Yunlin County, stretches1,939 meters and was once a hub for transportation in Taiwans western corridor. In the old days, in addition to the highway it also carried tracks for Taiwan Sugars narrow-gauge railway.

Taiwans cultivation of coffee began in the 10th year of Emperor Guangxu, Ching Dynasty (1884). During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese planted approximately 75 hectares of coffee trees in the realm of the Hebao Mountain Commercial Farm of Gukeng Township, Yunlin. Therefore, Hebao Mountain earned the name Kafei Mountain (or Coffee Mountain) and is still so called by some today.With an altitude of 300 meters, Hebao Mountain, a place located in the subtropical zone and composed of sandy soil that drains water well, is ideal for growing coffee trees. And most of the coffee trees cultivated here are coffee Arabic Linn.Hebao Mountain Trail Hebao Mountain has a trail with a section of stone stairs where the air is fresh and the environment is secluded. The scenery along the cool wooden path of these stairs is emerald green, and it becomes even more poetic with small white flowers accentuating the picturesque view during April and May when the Tung flowers blossom.The total length of the Hebao Mountain trail is approximately two kilometers long. At the end of the stone stairs and to the side is the Hebao Mountain triangle point. Here you can enter a flat area following a footpath of stone plates and enjoy the enchanting scenery.Shitou Park Located in the Zhaoyang Village of Gukeng Township, Shitou Park is the only park on the island that is made by piled-up rocks. In the upper area of the park sits a Shitou Temple, where Maitreya (Laughing Buddha) is worshipped. In addition to the statues of gods and goddesses that are made of natural stone, the incense burner is also made of a piece of real rock.Shitou Park is surrounded by mountains on four sides and features a large green Lotus Pond and lovely wooden cottages to provide lodging for worshipers. The arrangement and decoration in the park is so refreshing and relaxing that spending time here is something cool and pleasant. New areas for accommodation, barbecues, and recreation have been created, too, all to make the park an ideal destiny for a family outing.

The 10 scenic spots of Caoling famous all over Taiwan are Penglai Falls, Broken Hill, Rocky Cliff, Water Shaded Cave, Frog Rock, Marvelous Cave, Dead Man Valley, Tongxin Fall, Beaded Pond, Brook Paradise. All the grand rocks, marvelous stone, falls or streams are not artificially carved or decorated but made by God and formed splendid natural landscape.After 921 Earthquake, many of the natural landscape were changed. Looking up from the sand bars of Caoling Lake, the natural ecology is presenting with different scene and made itself a demonstrating place for geology and ecology education.Traditional crafts – Gukeng is famous with bamboo and rock, and it seems that most of the residents in Gukeng can make bamboo arts and stone sculpture. Examples are bamboo cylinder, bamboo rack, bamboo serial bead, stone mortar, stone table, stone stool, and stone wall. They all display the skillful crafts of tradition of Caoling.

The Taiwan Temple Art Museum affiliated to the Yunlin Cultural Center includes a main hall (temple hall) and 2 side halls (puppet show museum and deity statue museum). The main hall is the biggest and introduces temples in Taiwan in 19 areas.Subjects of the exhibits in the temple hall cover the correlations between temples and Taiwan development, temple fairs, color paintings, flag embroidery etc. The puppet show hall is another major exhibition hall. With the assistance of the Ge Sect of Yunlin - Xinxing Ge Puppet Show Theatre, over 200 puppets have been collected. The deity statute hall is behind the puppet show hall, displaying the statues of common deities found in Taiwan, such as Mazu, Guanyin, Wangye, Guangong, Fude Zhengshen etc.
