Taichung Park is the oldest park in Taichung city. Built in the Japanese-ruling era and with a space of 10 acres, the park base at that time was the garden, named Ruixuan and actually donated by the Lin family in Wufeng, together with the old Beimen Building. Taichung Park features many pretty landscapes, such an artificial lake, pavilion, arch bridge, etc. There are also lots of recreational equipments, like outdoor stadium, playground, and tennis court. Some extraordinary European-style building and Houxing Pavilion were constructed in 1908 in celebration of the launch of the Taiwan Railway stretching from north to south in Taiwan. Houxing Pavilion has also been the symbol of Taichung City since the Japanese-ruling era and it’s hence officially declared as a city-designated historical site in 1999.

Yi-Chung shopping districtYi-Chung shopping district including Yucai Street, extending to the Chungyo department store. Taichung First High School, Taichung Institute of Technology and National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sports, Water Conservancy Building and several cram schools are also near this area, forming the street scene of the coexistence of shopping and tuition.Teenagers are considered as the main consumer groups of the district. With the most popular fashion information, food and drinks in this area shows the vigor of the youth. Besides, there are several local snacks such as the Dongshan duck, spicy tofu, chicken pie and octopus balls, all of which are low cost yet delicious.

The band shaped city space that is Green Park Road connects the National Museum of Natural Science, Citizens’ Plaza, CMP Park Lane, an arts space, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and a food street. The atmosphere changes with each different activity: sometimes bustling, sometimes tranquil, the space sometimes full, sometimes empty, giving the area a natural harmony and flow like that of grass script calligraphy. As the design was based on the concept of finding the Way the writing of ‘grass script’ calligraphy it is also known as the Calligraphy Greenway.

Chung Hua Night Market is filled with many old Taiwanese snack stands. It has over 40 years of history. Some of the vendors have gone through many generations. In the meantime, it is the biggest old night market in Taichung City. Many snack stands are scattered around on Chung Hua Road. You can find everything here. There are also unique snacks, such as snakes and turtles. There are the Rixin and Global movie theater, and Wonderful Cinemas for second round movies, which provide you with different movie choices.

It was an eye hopital opened by Takekuma Miyahara during the Japanese occupied period, and it was also once a health center in Taichung, and it was even a ruin until the famous pineapple cake company bought the building and reopened itafter renovating. Although renovated, but it still retains many aspects of the original structure, such as the mottled red brick walls and arches of the old carving. The appearance of the red brick building combined with modern stylish glass at the top is indeed the beauty of conflict. The inside of Miyahara will make you feel like walking in Hogwarts with the high-ceilinged building and rows of cabinets labeled and categorized as libraries; but the books are actually only the appearance of the boxes, which contains pastry and cakes. This site is definitely worth to visit in person.
