The Sun Moon Lake, located in the middle of Taiwan, with an elevation of 748 meters above sea level, is the only natural big lake in Taiwan. The southern part of Lalu Island is shaped like a new moon, and the northern part is shaped like a sun; hence the name Sun Moon Lake.Scenic resourcesThe most famous sights around Sun Moon Lake are the Itashao, Lalu Island, the Xuanzang Temple, the Ci-en Pagoda, and the Wenwu Temple and so on. The natural forests bordering these roads are good places for bird watching. There are a lot of birds that live on the mid-elevation, such as the Grey-cheeked Fulvetta, Grap-throated Minivet, Formosan Yuhina, Gray Tree Pie, Bamboo Partridge, Chinese Bulbul, Mullers Barbet, and the Black Bulbul.Colonies of Black-crowned Night herons and Egretta garzettas , and birds such as the common kingfisher and the Green-winged Teal can be seen at the Dazhuhu water reservation, situated around the water gate. Besides these birds, fish, insects and wild vegetables are flourishing in the region as well. These are all natural resources of the Sun Moon Lake region.The Shao Clan is the earliest clan that lived in the Sun Moon Lake region. The Harvest Festival, Sowing Festival and their special handicraft fair every year, as well as their articles have helped to preserve the particular culture of the Sun Moon Lake region.

Ita Thao is called Barawbaw in thao language. The Han people call it North Cave. It was named Te Hua village after the restoration of Taiwan, and is under the administration of Yuchi.Barawbaw is the last residence of the thao people at Sun Moon Lake. On account of the continuous stream of tourists, many Han people moved here to go into trade. Therefore, Ita Thao becomes the most populous area around the Sun Moon Lake. There are stores, restaurants, and hotels in the village. Also the thao people establishes the "thao Cultural Village" for tourists to appreciate the traditional culture, songs, and dancing of the thao tribe.The harvest ceremony, the most important and splendid ceremony among all the others held during the year, is held every year during August in lunar calendar. If you visit Ita Thao during this month, you will have the chance to appreciate the culture of thao people. Barawbaw(Ita Thao) is the entrance to the Shuishe Mountain.

Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village was established in 1986; total area is 62 hectares. The culture village features aboriginal cultures, combining tourism, culture and educational functions. It is located in Yuchi, Nantou County, near Sun Moon Lake. The culture village has made great efforts in updating the amusement facilities and services and has shown the vigorous spirits of the aboriginal tribes.Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village has five theme parks: the European Gardens, the Aladdin Plaza, the Aboriginal Villages, Amusement Isle and Ti Ka Er Rainforest. Amusement facilities in these five theme parks include joy ride, cultural square, artistic fountain, museums, 3-D theater, aboriginal dance show, etc. The Culture Village is entertaining and educational, perfect for families on holidays.

Shuili Snake Kiln is the town where remains the eldest tradition of kiln-making. There is a biggest kiln work which is in the Guinness Book of Records by the size of 6.68 meters. In this area, there are 921 Earthquake Memorial, Guinness Book of Records-pottery information center, coffee shop, the civilization center, multi-media center, the mold room, the art room, and the pottery room.

Puli is at the center of Taiwan. With an elevation between 380~700 meters, Puli is a basin surrounded by rising & falling mountains, hills and farmland. The most famous tourist spots include the Puli Brewery Factory, Guangxing(Guangshing) paper Manufactory, and Chung Tai Chan Monastery; its special products (fine food) are wild rice stems, passion fruit, red sugar canes, rice-noodles, and Shaoxing wine.

Located on Provincial Highway No.21 around Shueishe Tunnel, Xiangshan Visitor Center, the center of Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration is 3km away from our resort. Its eccentric building was designed by Japanese architect Norihiko Dan. It looks like both human arms embracing the Sun Moon Lake when looking down the building from top. The landscape of Sun Moon Lake is displayed through the two large structures of top slab that is 34m long and 8m high to create a stage in which people converse with the great nature. Opened on September 21 2008 in Tao-mi Community, the marvelous architecture made of paper tubes is actually an old building associated with earthquakes; a natural disaster closely related with the residents in Tao-mi. Architect Shigeru Ban built a paper dome for Takatori Catholic Church collapsed during Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. Symbolizing the durability and vitality of reconstruction after the earthquake, the paper dome is transported to Tao-mi Community to continue its spirit of resurrection after the earthquake.Sitting on the green lawn, Paper Dome is supported by 58 paper tubes. Even the benches indoors and outdoors are made of paper. The yellowish lighting creates a warm and tranquil atmosphere. During the evening, the warm orange light bulbsbrighten the whole dome, reflecting the light and shadow of the dome in the water. In the dark, it fills people with hope and courage for revival. The Paper Dome New Homeland Park beside Paper Dome contains a farm in nature farming, a restaurant promoting local produces, a market selling crafts, a piece of land in combination between art and ecology, a study emphasizing learning, and a studio for those who enjoy DIY. Paper Dome is not only an architectural indicator for resurrection after the earthquake, but also a natural and eco-friendly park.
